Corfitz
Ulfeldt (1609-1664). He was married to King Christian
IV's daughter, Leonora Christine in 1636. A
precocious student and gifted writer, she married Corfitz Ulfeldt
when she was 15; they had been betrothed since she was nine. Ulfeldt
became Royal Seneschal in 1643, but after the death of Christian he
became involved in treasonous intrigues in Denmark and Sweden. He
was imprisoned and released, and sentenced to death in absentia;
he died in 1664. By then Leonora had been captured
in Dover, while on her way to reclaim a loan made to Charles II, who
was in exile. |
